Open to All Ages / Levels Day Workshop with meal

Want to sing but you think you cannot? Do people tell you, you cannot sing, or even please stop “your voice is killing my ears” and so you believe them? Or… have you heard yourself and think OMG I’ll just sing in the closet or my shower where no one can hear me. The best one is “I must be tone deaf, cause I cannot hit a tune at all.”

[Very few people are actually tone deaf – this is a physical construct in the inner ear and only about 5% of the population are actually tone deaf.]

The Facilitator Cilica’s answer to most things is YES and again YES…. then we find out how to achieve it. Singing is no different. We begin with a desire and go from there. Some people just want to carry a tune, others want to sing the latest pop or traditional songs and others want to sing in a choir.

Singing is fun and should be done for joy whether Amateur or Professional. All singing begins with a strong foundation. With this foundation you create power, soft/light highs, vibrant lows and a medium to small range that resonates.

Breath Life into your Singing

work to develop great breath

  • Simple to complex breathing techniques: develop strength in the core muscles that aid the diaphragm, lungs and torso muscles
  • Develop strong breath support for longer breaths
  • To lift and open the chest, free the flow of air/carbon
  • Align & work with your posture: neck, jaw, shoulder, hip placements
  • To produce strong, powerful, deeper, higher, lighter voices
  • How to develop legato, staccato, f & p, crescendos, decrescendos vocal lines
  • Improve sharp and flat notes in your singing from supported / improved breathing

De-stress your Body, Free the Voice

movement in the body enables a freer singing

  • Develop simple, complex, experimental breathing techniques to create freedom for energy to move in&out of the instrument freely
  • Open your chest for maximum breath and health
  • Align your posture improving areas of blockage: sore or tight/short muscles
  • Alleviate tension held in the throat causing soar throats, tight/held jaws, neck pain, headaches,blurred vision, tired eyes, fatigue in general.
  • Free up the 7 energy centres of the body called chakras with voice toning
  • Grounding the body on the earth, soaring the voice where you need it to go your singing space

Listening Ears – Fabulous Voice

Singing produces great voices, soft voices, high/lower/medium voices

  • Enhance your breathing with simple to complex breathing exercises
  • Work on your posture alignment, posture movement, standing upon the earth
  • Understand how to sing with the ear, maintaining pitch longer and without distraction
  • Improve pitch, ear articulation
  • Ear toning – playing with the ear to develop great sense of hearing, connect with the sound, the feel of the sound, know the sound
  • Ear toning enhances your pp, mp-mf, forte voices
  • Vocal toning – resonating the sound within the body producing quality tone and sound, movement, space

Chanting

create harmony and peace, mind body spirite

  • Learn to chant through deep breathing and manipulations of sound.
  • Play with the placement of the voice to create resonating sounds, words, mantras (words sung repeatedly in a meditative manner)
  • Develop your on the 7 chakra sounds to harmonize and balance the body – chakras are the 7 energy centres of the body in Eastern philosopy
  • Learn to deepen and move the vibration/resonance of your sound throughout the body
  • Learn Trance chanting – this is when the body vibrates at a pitch where the mind is calm, and both the body and mind are stress free
  • Develop an awareness of how meditative chanting de-stresses, calms your thoughts and slows your thinking to achieve focus, lessen pain for health or from an injury and aid in a long life.

In this workshop, we play with rhythms, pitches, sounds, dance, movement, energy and explore the voice and music.  Explore and rekindle your childish side to singing and your voice and communication.  As a child, you had a natural voice, free from fear of singing or speaking, maybe a little shy but full of laughter and mischievousness, let us find this again.  Work on chanting, songs, sounds, speech, and more.  Come away energized and full of life.
